Collection: Serums
A serum is the step where a routine either works harder or stays the same. It is the most concentrated thing you will apply, and the only step where the formula changes what the rest of your products can do.

This selection is weighted towards what has moved fastest in professional treatment rooms: exosome serums, growth factor formulas, and retinal rather than retinol.
Heather Nicole works with these on clients before they reach this page. Several are sold at the strength she uses them at.
Twenty-nine serums is more choice than most people want. What follows sorts them by what they do rather than by brand.
If you are new to actives, start with hydration. If you have used them for years, the retinal and exosome sections are where the newer work is. One serum used properly beats four used carelessly.
What Is an Exosome Serum?
Exosomes are microscopic vesicles that cells use to carry signals to one another. Where a peptide or an acid does something to the skin, an exosome formula is designed to communicate with it. This is the newest category on the page, and the fastest growing in professional skincare.
The Glow by Tatum range is formulated by concern rather than sold as one universal bottle: Anti Aging, Acne, Pigmentation and Sensitive.
Do they work? The category is young enough that honest brands do not overclaim. What users consistently report is smoother texture and a calmer complexion. Treat it as an addition to a routine that already works, not a rescue for one that does not.
Choose this if: Your basics are in place and you want the most current formulation available at home.
Look at this instead: If your routine is still being built, the PCA Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum will do more for you first.
Stem Cell and Growth Factor Serums
Osmosis StemFactor Advanced MD is the most requested formula in this section. Growth factors are proteins that signal skin cells to behave the way they did when they were younger. DNA Skin Institute Signal Plus works on the same principle.
In plain terms: a stem cell serum supports the skin's own renewal rather than exfoliating or resurfacing. No downtime, no adjustment period, and no dramatic first week. This category rewards months, not days.
For the full ranges, see Osmosis and DNA Skin.
Choose this if: You want visible change without irritation, and you are patient.
Look at this instead: If you want faster resurfacing, Osmosis Correct MD works more quickly, though it asks more of your skin.
Retinal, Not Retinol
Your skin cannot use either directly. Both must convert into retinoic acid, which is the form that does the work. Retinol takes two steps. Retinal takes one. That makes retinal faster at comparable strength, usually with less of the flaking that puts people off retinol entirely.
The Osmosis range is graded by tolerance: Calm to start, Correct MD Advanced for everyday use, Clarify for breakout-prone skin.
Whatever retinal you use, your moisturizer goes on afterwards, not before. More on sequencing in Moisturizers.
Choose this if: You want retinoid results and have found retinol too slow or too irritating.
Look at this instead: If your skin is currently reactive, start with the Sensitive Exo-Serum and return to retinal once it settles.
Peptides, Hyaluronic Acid and Hydration
PCA ExLinea Peptide Smoothing Serum signals for firmness, slowly and reliably. PCA Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum holds water in the skin, which matters because dehydrated skin looks older than it is and no anti-aging active corrects that.
Apply hyaluronic acid to slightly damp skin and seal it with a moisturizer. On dry skin in dry air it can draw moisture out rather than in.
Choose this if: Your skin feels tight, looks dull, or has never had a hydration step.
Look at this instead: If hydration is handled and you want correction rather than support, the retinal or exosome sections are the next step.
Medical Grade or Clean?
Medical grade. Osmosis MD, PCA Skin, DNA Skin Institute. Higher active concentrations, formulated for professional dispensing, and the faster route to visible change.
Clean and botanical. The Orgaid Youth Serum is a certified organic face serum. The DNA Skin Phyto range is plant-derived. Gentler, slower, better suited to skin that reacts to concentrated actives.
There is no correct answer. A clean serum used daily for a year outperforms a medical-grade one abandoned after three weeks because it stung.
Her own Heather Nicole Resurfacing Serum sits between the two. For the rest of her line, see Skin Skulpt Skin Care.
How to Layer Your Serums
- How many. Two is comfortable, three is the ceiling. Beyond that you are diluting, not layering.
- When. Antioxidant and hydrating serums suit mornings. Retinal, exosome and growth factor formulas suit evenings. Retinal is evening only.
- Together. Exosome and retinal can share a routine, though alternating nights is gentler while you build tolerance.
- How long. Hydration shows in days. Texture takes four to six weeks. Firmness takes three months.
Applied after derma rolling, serums absorb considerably better. See Tools & Devices.
FAQ
What is an exosome serum?
A serum containing exosomes, which are microscopic vesicles cells use to carry signals to each other. Unlike an acid or a peptide, it is formulated to communicate with skin rather than act on it directly. It is the newest category in professional skincare.
Do exosome serums work?
Users consistently report smoother texture and calmer skin, though the category is new enough that reputable brands avoid overclaiming. Treat an exosome serum as an addition to a routine that already works, rather than a fix for one that does not.
What is the difference between retinal and retinol?
Conversion steps. Skin must convert both into retinoic acid. Retinol takes two steps, retinal takes one. That makes retinal faster at comparable strength, and often less irritating than the concentration of retinol needed to match it.
What does a stem cell serum do?
It supports the skin's own renewal process using growth factors, which signal cells to behave as they did when younger. Unlike acids or retinoids, it does not exfoliate or resurface. There is no downtime, and no dramatic first week.
What order should you apply serums, and how many?
Thinnest to thickest, with two comfortable and three the practical ceiling. Watery and gel textures first, oil-based last. Applied the other way round, the heavier formula blocks the lighter one. Moisturizer always goes on top, never between serums.
Should you use serum in the morning or at night?
Both, but not the same ones. Antioxidant and hydrating serums suit mornings, where they work against daily exposure. Retinal, exosome and growth factor formulas suit evenings, when skin repairs. Retinal should be evening only.
How long do serums take to work?
Hydration shows within days. Texture takes four to six weeks. Firmness and tone take around three months. Anyone promising faster results on the last two is describing hydration rather than correction.
